Uttar Pradesh Government Launches Intensive Crackdown on Fuel Black Marketing
The Uttar Pradesh government has initiated a comprehensive and large-scale enforcement operation targeting the illegal black marketing of essential fuels, including petrol, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). This decisive action aims to guarantee an uninterrupted and steady supply of these critical commodities to consumers across the state.
Massive Inspection Drive Yields Significant Results
Since the campaign commenced on March 12, authorities have executed an impressive total of 29,607 inspections and raids throughout Uttar Pradesh. This rigorous enforcement effort has led to the registration of more than 220 First Information Reports (FIRs), with a notable 39 cases specifically concerning irregularities in LPG distribution.
The crackdown has resulted in the on-the-spot arrest of 22 individuals suspected of involvement in black marketing activities. Furthermore, legal prosecution proceedings have been formally initiated against 261 people, underscoring the government's zero-tolerance approach towards fuel-related malpractices.
Stable Fuel Supply and Adequate Stock Levels Assured
Officials have confirmed that the supply chain for petrol and diesel remains normal and fully operational across the state. Fuel distribution is being efficiently managed through a network of 12,888 petrol pumps. During the period from April 12 to April 16, daily sales consistently recorded volumes in the thousands of kilolitres, indicating robust market activity.
To alleviate any concerns regarding availability, the state government has reported that Uttar Pradesh currently maintains sufficient fuel reserves. The stockpile includes approximately 82,000 kilolitres of petrol and an even larger reserve of 1.05 lakh kilolitres of diesel. Authorities have strongly urged citizens to refrain from panic buying or hoarding and to disregard any unfounded rumors suggesting potential shortages.
LPG Distribution and Expansion of Gas Infrastructure
The supply of LPG is also reported to be stable and reliable, with 4,107 authorized distributors ensuring the timely delivery of refill cylinders to households. In alignment with central government directives, commercial LPG is being allocated in a phased manner to priority sectors, which include:
- Hotels and restaurants
- Roadside dhabas
- Industrial units
- Community kitchens
In a parallel initiative to enhance energy access, the state has accelerated the expansion of its city gas distribution network. Since March 14, authorities have issued over 51,548 new piped natural gas (PNG) connections. This significant increase has elevated the total number of PNG connections in Uttar Pradesh to more than 16.09 lakh, marking a substantial step forward in urban gas infrastructure development.
Enhanced Monitoring and Control Mechanisms
To ensure continuous oversight of the fuel supply situation, the government has established a dedicated 24×7 control room at the Food Commissioner's office. This central monitoring unit is complemented by active district-level teams that are vigilantly supervising local conditions to prevent any disruptions and maintain transparency in distribution.
The Uttar Pradesh government's multifaceted approach—combining strict enforcement against black marketing with assurances of ample supply and infrastructure growth—demonstrates a committed effort to safeguard consumer interests and stabilize the fuel market across the state.
