Uttar Pradesh's Paddy Procurement Drive Shows Remarkable Success
The Uttar Pradesh government is actively transforming its vision of 'Samridhh kisan, shashakt Uttar Pradesh' into tangible reality by ensuring unprecedented prosperity for paddy farmers across the state. Under the direct supervision of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the paddy procurement process has witnessed significant improvements and streamlined operations that are benefiting farmers at the grassroots level.
Record-Breaking Procurement Numbers
The food and civil supplies department has been meticulously monitoring the procurement system, which began on October 1 in western Uttar Pradesh and November 1 in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The initiative has received overwhelming support from the farming community, with impressive results recorded between October 1 and November 28.
During this period, over 1.39 lakh farmers sold 8.28 lakh metric tonnes of paddy to the government. The scale of farmer participation is evident from the registration numbers, with more than 5.44 lakh farmers having registered for paddy sales in the current procurement season.
Infrastructure and Timely Payments
The state administration has surpassed its initial targets by establishing 4,225 procurement centres across Uttar Pradesh, ensuring easy access for farmers from all regions. One of the most significant achievements has been the implementation of the 48-hour payment guarantee as directed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
Farmers are receiving the full benefits under the minimum support price scheme, with procurement rates set at Rs 2,369 per quintal for common variety paddy and Rs 2,389 per quintal for grade-A quality. This transparent pricing mechanism has eliminated uncertainty and exploitation that farmers previously faced.
Technological Reforms Transforming Agriculture
The Yogi government has introduced groundbreaking reforms in the paddy procurement system that are now clearly visible at the ground level. The implementation of e-POP machines for biometric verification has revolutionized the process, ensuring that procurement occurs only from registered farmers.
This technological intervention has effectively eliminated middlemen from the procurement chain, creating a more transparent and efficient mandi system. The combination of digital verification and prompt payment processing within 48 hours has significantly enhanced farmer trust in government mechanisms.
The success of Uttar Pradesh's paddy procurement strategy demonstrates how focused governance and technological integration can directly impact agricultural prosperity. With over 5.44 lakh farmers registered for the 2025-26 procurement season, the state is poised to build on this momentum and further strengthen its agricultural economy.
