UPSRTC Rolls Out Mukhyamantri Gram Parivahan Scheme to Boost Rural Bus Services
Following the Uttar Pradesh cabinet's approval of the Mukhyamantri Gram Parivahan Scheme last week, the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has commenced active implementation to strengthen bus connectivity across rural regions. The corporation aims to finalize advertising for the initiative by the end of this month and will subsequently call for applications from private operators interested in managing the bus operations.
Application Process and Timeline for Private Operators
UPSRTC officials have outlined a structured timeline, with application screening expected to be completed by mid-April. There is no cap on the maximum number of buses that can operate from district headquarters under this scheme, as confirmed by an official, ensuring flexibility to meet local demand. The primary objective is to ensure at least two buses run from every district headquarters to villages within the district, addressing long-standing transportation gaps.
Specifications and Operational Details of the Buses
The buses deployed under the Mukhyamantri Gram Parivahan Scheme will be smaller in size, with a maximum length of seven metres and a seating capacity of 28 passengers. These vehicles are designed to navigate rural roads more efficiently. Operationally, the buses will halt overnight in villages, and in the morning, they will travel via block and tehsil routes to reach district headquarters by 10 am, facilitating daily commutes for residents.
Fare Determination and Local Governance
Fares for the bus services will be decided at the local level by a committee headed by the district magistrate. This approach allows for tailored pricing based on regional economic factors and ensures affordability for rural populations. The scheme represents a significant step towards improving mobility and economic opportunities in Uttar Pradesh's hinterlands, with UPSRTC coordinating closely with private stakeholders to ensure seamless execution.
