Uttar Pradesh Records Threefold Increase in Women's Workforce Participation

In a significant development highlighting social and economic progress, Uttar Pradesh has witnessed a dramatic threefold rise in women's participation in the workforce over the past nine years. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made this announcement on Wednesday during an address at Madan Mohan Malaviya University of Technology (MMMUT) in Gorakhpur.

From 12% to Over 36%: A Remarkable Transformation

The Chief Minister revealed that the proportion of working women in the state has increased from approximately 12% to more than 36% since 2017. He directly attributed this substantial surge to comprehensive initiatives focused on enhancing safety, dignity, and self-reliance for women across Uttar Pradesh.

"A society where women step out fearlessly for work is a true indicator of security," Adityanath remarked. He noted that in previous years, pervasive safety concerns had compelled many families to send their daughters outside the state for education and employment opportunities.

Infrastructure and Institutional Support Driving Change

During the event, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for a new 144-bed girls' hostel. This facility is being constructed under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funding by the Power Grid Corporation of India at a cost of Rs 13.67 crore. He emphasized that the state government is actively working to establish similar working women's hostels in major urban centers to further encourage female participation in both education and the professional workforce.

"Eliminating gender bias at the family level would significantly accelerate our overall development," Adityanath stressed, highlighting the crucial role of societal change in sustaining this progress.

Enhancing Forensic and Cyber Security Capabilities

The Chief Minister also inaugurated a state-of-the-art cyber forensic research laboratory, built at an estimated cost of Rs 4.67 crore. He underscored the growing importance of forensic science within the criminal justice system, revealing that Uttar Pradesh now operates 12 high-grade forensic laboratories. This marks a substantial increase from just two such facilities prior to 2017, with an additional six currently under construction.

Furthermore, under the new criminal laws, forensic evidence has been made mandatory in cases involving potential punishments exceeding seven years, a move designed to strengthen conviction rates and ensure justice.

On the cybersecurity front, Adityanath detailed a massive expansion from merely two cyber police stations in 2017 to establishing one in each of the state's 75 districts. This network is further supported by dedicated cyber help desks operational across more than 1,600 police stations statewide.

Positioning Uttar Pradesh as an Economic Powerhouse

Beyond social initiatives, the Chief Minister highlighted Uttar Pradesh's remarkable economic transformation into a hub for manufacturing and innovation. He claimed the state now contributes a dominant 55% of India's total mobile phone manufacturing output.

Adityanath emphasized ongoing efforts to align the youth with contemporary technology, innovation, and industry demands, aiming to transform them into "market-ready" and "industry-ready" professionals.

Looking ahead, he announced upcoming strategic collaborations in future-oriented sectors such as green hydrogen, medical technology (med-tech), and agricultural technology (agri-tech). These initiatives are part of a broader vision to position Uttar Pradesh as a future-ready economic powerhouse on the national and global stage.

The event also included the distribution of research excellence awards, celebrating academic and innovative achievements within the state.
