Uttar Pradesh's Fiscal Transformation Under Yogi Adityanath Hailed as Historic
Sarojini Nagar MLA Rajeshwar Singh on Thursday declared the fiscal transformation of Uttar Pradesh under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath as a historic achievement. He emphasized that the state has transitioned from constrained and fragmented spending patterns to implementing large-scale, balanced capacity building initiatives across key sectors.
Sharp Rise in Sectoral Expenditure Trends
Singh pointed to sectoral expenditure trends across successive governments, noting a significant increase in allocations during the current regime. He provided detailed comparisons to illustrate this upward trajectory.
Law and Order SectorIn the law and order sector, the police budget has seen a remarkable surge. During the BSP government in 2012–13, allocations were approximately Rs 10,000–12,000 crore. Under the SP government in 2016–17, this rose to Rs 15,000–18,000 crore. However, under the present administration, the budget has skyrocketed to Rs 41,898 crore for 2026–27, representing nearly a fourfold jump from earlier periods.
Health and Family WelfareAllocations in health and family welfare have climbed to Rs 53,326 crore. This substantial funding supports the expansion of medical colleges, hospitals, and diagnostic facilities across the state, enhancing healthcare accessibility and infrastructure.
Rural Development and Social WelfareRural development spending has reached Rs 49,044 crore, while social welfare and nutrition allocations stand at Rs 42,263 crore. These investments aim to improve living conditions and support vulnerable populations in rural areas.
Urban DevelopmentUrban development allocations have risen to Rs 27,532 crore, focusing on modernizing cities and improving urban infrastructure to accommodate growing populations.
Crediting Fiscal Stability and Prudent Management
Singh attributed these sustained, development-oriented investments to strong revenue growth, controlled fiscal deficits, and prudent debt management. He stated that Uttar Pradesh is now fiscally stable and institutionally stronger, enabling continued progress in key sectors.
The MLA's remarks underscore a significant shift in the state's financial approach, moving away from limited spending to strategic, large-scale investments that foster balanced growth and development across various domains.
