Uttarakhand Implements New SOP for Commercial LPG Cylinder Distribution
In a significant move to enhance the supply chain, Uttarakhand has commenced district-wise allocation of commercial LPG cylinders following the implementation of a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). Officials from the state government confirmed that this initiative is designed to streamline distribution and provide relief to commercial consumers across various sectors.
Streamlined Supply Through Oil Marketing Companies
Under the newly established system, major oil marketing companies—including Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, and Bharat Petroleum Corporation—have initiated the supply of cylinders to gas agencies in strict adherence to the government's SOP. This procedural framework mandates that gas agencies cater to the daily requirements of hotels, restaurants, homestays, hospitals, and pharmaceutical units, ensuring a more organized and efficient distribution network.
Initial allocation figures reveal substantial progress: 794 cylinders of 19 kg and 85 cylinders of 47.5 kg have already been distributed to agencies. With Uttarakhand currently hosting 63,054 commercial gas connections serviced through 311 gas agencies, authorities anticipate a marked improvement in cylinder availability as the SOP rollout continues.
Official Assurance on Domestic LPG Availability
Additional Food Commissioner P S Pangti emphasized that there is no shortage of domestic LPG in the state. He clarified that the SOP specifically targets commercial supply, while domestic cylinders remain adequately stocked. "The SOP, issued recently, ensures that commercial establishments receive cylinders based on their daily needs, without impacting domestic availability," Pangti stated.
Enhanced Enforcement Against Misuse
Concurrently, district administrations have ramped up enforcement measures to prevent the illegal use of domestic cylinders for commercial purposes. In Pauri Garhwal, District Magistrate Swati S Bhadauria conducted a review meeting, directing relevant departments to carry out surprise inspections throughout the district.
District Supply Officer Arun Kumar Verma reported that on Wednesday alone, 103 establishments were inspected, comprising 10 gas godowns, two petrol pumps or petty diesel dealers, and 91 commercial establishments. In Srinagar, a fine of Rs 4,600 was imposed on a commercial entity found illegally utilizing domestic gas cylinders, underscoring the state's commitment to regulatory compliance.
Addressing Booking Disruptions in Uttarkashi
In Uttarkashi, District Magistrate Prashant Arya acknowledged that while domestic cylinder stocks are sufficient at depots, booking services are experiencing disruptions due to a surge in call volumes. To mitigate this issue, Arya announced that consumers unable to complete bookings via telephone, SMS, or mobile applications may visit gas agencies specifically for booking purposes.
"All agencies have been directed to ensure door-to-door delivery for registered consumers, even as we work to resolve the booking challenges," Arya assured, highlighting efforts to maintain service continuity amidst high demand.
The implementation of this SOP marks a proactive step by Uttarakhand's administration to bolster the commercial LPG supply chain, ensuring reliable access for businesses while safeguarding domestic resources through stringent enforcement and clear operational guidelines.
