Contractual Fire Department Drivers in Vadodara Stage Protest Over Salary Issues
Contractual drivers attached to the fire department of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) staged a significant protest on Thursday, staying away from work until the afternoon. The drivers, who are hired through an agency, raised serious allegations regarding delayed and inadequate salaries, which they claim have severely impacted their livelihoods and morale.

In addition to the salary delays, the drivers voiced concerns over their low wages. They stated that they are paid a fixed salary of Rs 15,000 per month, which they argue is insufficient given the demanding nature of their work, especially during emergencies. In response to the protest, In-charge Chief Fire Officer Harendrasinh Chauhan attributed the issue to a GST-related problem faced by the contractor. He clarified that the drivers were absent only for a short period and have since returned to duty, downplaying the disruption while acknowledging the underlying administrative challenges.
