In a shocking incident on Monday night, unidentified individuals hurled stones at the Vande Bharat Express near Ujjain railway station, resulting in damage to five coaches. The attack, which is being described as the first major stone-pelting incident targeting the premier train service in the city, occurred around 7:30 pm near Gada Pulia, approximately 200 meters from Ujjain railway station.
Details of the Incident
The train was en route from Ujjain to Indore when the assailants struck. It had arrived in Ujjain via Itarsi and Bhopal. The stones were thrown between Gada Pulia and the Neelganga railway track, shattering the windows of five coaches in quick succession. Despite the chaos caused by the sudden impacts, no passengers were injured.
Response and Investigation
The train did not stop at the site and continued to Ujjain railway station as scheduled, where railway police were alerted. Railway Protection Force (RPF) police station in-charge Narendra Yadav confirmed that no passengers sustained injuries but acknowledged the extent of the damage. “No one was hurt, but five coaches have suffered window damage,” he said, adding that CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to identify the accused.
RPF officers inspected the damaged coaches and recorded statements from passengers. The RPF’s Ujjain unit has registered a case against unidentified individuals and launched a search operation to apprehend those responsible.
