Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam Chief Vijay Submits Revised Affidavit With Criminal Case Details
In a significant development ahead of the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president and prominent actor Vijay has submitted a fresh election affidavit that includes two pending criminal cases which were absent from his initial filing. The updated declaration comes as the state prepares for polling on April 23, with vote counting scheduled for May 4 across all 234 assembly constituencies.
Disclosure of Previously Omitted FIRs
The revised affidavit, filed with the returning officer, reveals two First Information Reports (FIRs) that Vijay had not declared in his original submission. The actor-politician, who is contesting from both Perambur and Tiruchirapalli East constituencies, filed his nomination for Perambur on March 30 and for Trichy East on April 2.
The first case involves FIR number 74 of 2026, registered at the K5 Peravallur Police Station in Chennai. This case pertains to alleged public disturbance during election campaigning activities on March 30. Notably, Vijay stated in his affidavit that he became aware of this particular case through social media platforms on April 2, just days after the incident occurred.
The second case concerns FIR number 108 of 2025 from Koodakovil Police Station in Madurai district. This legal matter relates to an incident that took place during a party conference on August 21, 2025. According to the complaint, an individual alleged being pushed and injured by bouncers while attempting to approach Vijay during a ramp walk event.
Financial Disclosures Remain Largely Consistent
While the criminal record section of the affidavit underwent substantial changes, the financial disclosures presented by the TVK leader showed remarkable consistency with his previous filing. Vijay's movable assets are now valued at approximately Rs 410.59 crore, representing a modest increase from the previously declared Rs 404.58 crore.
Key components of his movable assets include:
- Silver articles worth Rs 15 lakh
- 883 grams of gold jewellery valued at over Rs 1.20 crore
The total current market value of his immovable properties stands at an estimated Rs 220.15 crore. These properties comprise commercial and residential buildings located in prime areas such as Neelankarai and Saligramam.
Income and Tax Details
For the 2024-2025 financial year, Vijay declared a total income of Rs 184.53 crore. The affidavit also revealed pending income tax demands amounting to approximately Rs 3.44 crore across multiple assessment years. These tax demands are currently under appeal, indicating ongoing legal proceedings regarding his tax liabilities.
The timing of this revised affidavit submission raises important questions about transparency in the electoral process, particularly concerning the disclosure of pending criminal cases by political candidates. Election affidavits serve as crucial documents that allow voters to make informed decisions about candidates' backgrounds and potential legal entanglements.
As Tamil Nadu approaches its assembly elections, this development involving one of the state's most prominent political newcomers underscores the importance of accurate and complete disclosure in the democratic process. The Election Commission of India mandates that all candidates submit detailed affidavits covering criminal, financial, and educational backgrounds to ensure electoral transparency.
