CM Vijayan Reaffirms Left's Commitment to Minorities at Samastha Rally
Vijayan: Left Has Tradition of Standing Against Communalism

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan delivered a strong message reaffirming the Left Democratic Front's (LDF) unwavering commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of minority communities in the state. He made these remarks while addressing the Samastha centenary message rally at Putharikandam Maidan in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday.

Historical Legacy of Support

The Chief Minister emphasized the long-standing tradition of the Left movement in India to stand firm against the forces of communalism. He stated that the Left views minorities with special regard, a principle that transcends electoral calculations. To substantiate this claim, Vijayan pointed to key historical decisions.

He reminded the audience that it was the first EMS Namboodiripad-led government that lifted the ban on the construction of Muslim mosques imposed after the Malabar Rebellion. Furthermore, the same administration established numerous schools in the Malabar region and was instrumental in the creation of Malappuram district. "We are aware of the criticisms faced by the Left government during the formation of Malappuram. These actions are evidence of the consistent support for minorities," Vijayan asserted.

A Call for Vigilance and Unity

Vijayan praised the role of Samastha Kerala Jem-iyyathul Ulama, the authoritative body of Muslim scholars, in fostering a secular society in Kerala. He noted that the organization, under the leadership of President Sayyid Muhammad Jifri Muthukoya Thangal, has consistently worked for peace and communal harmony.

The CM warned that the principle of 'unity in diversity' is being challenged constantly, making increased vigilance essential. He assured that the state government is always prepared to address the concerns of minorities and move forward in solidarity with them. "Whenever communalism has risen, the Left has stood strong. We assure that we will continue to do so," he pledged.

Samastha's Centenary and Broader Concerns

The rally was part of the centenary message journey led by Sayyid Muhammad Jifri Muthukoya Thangal, which commenced from Nagercoil. After touring various districts, the yatra is scheduled to conclude in Mangaluru on December 24.

In a related press conference, Thangal announced that the centenary international conference of Samastha will be held from February 4 to 8, 2026, in Kasaragod. He also raised a critical issue regarding the democratic process, pointing to reports that over 24 lakh (2.4 million) people have been excluded from the new voter list revision in Kerala. "No eligible person should be left out of the list, as it would weaken the democratic system of our country. Authorities should be ready to address the concerns of the citizens," Thangal urged.

The event underscored the ongoing political dialogue in Kerala centered on secularism, minority rights, and democratic inclusion, with the Left government positioning its historical actions as the cornerstone of its present-day promises.
