TVK Leader Vijay's Subdued Roadshow in Trichy Draws Crowds, Visits Multiple Religious Sites
In a strategic political move, TVK leader and Trichy East constituency candidate Vijay conducted a low-key roadshow on Sunday evening, traversing five wards without convening a public meeting. The event was marked by symbolic visits to places of worship, highlighting his inclusive approach ahead of the elections.
Campaign Kickoff and Route Details
Vijay arrived at Trichy International Airport around 3 PM, where he was warmly received by party functionaries and candidates from neighbouring constituencies. From there, he commenced his campaign along Wireless Road, despite the challenging sultry weather conditions that persisted throughout the day.
Crowds gathered enthusiastically along the route, with supporters pouring in from Trichy East, Srirangam, Trichy West, and nearby constituencies. The roadshow, though intentionally subdued, generated significant public interest and participation.
Religious Site Visits and Symbolic Gestures
The campaign trail included meaningful stops at three prominent religious institutions. At St. Antony's Church on Wireless Road, Vijay offered prayers, lit a candle, and made the sign of the cross. In a particularly notable gesture, he performed a kneel walk, demonstrating reverence and humility.
His next destination was the Noorul Hudah Mosque in KK Nagar, where representatives received him warmly and draped him with a traditional shawl as a mark of respect and hospitality. Before departing for Chennai, Vijay concluded his religious visits at the Kottapattu Pachanachi Amman Temple, where priests honoured him with traditional rituals.
Traffic Impact and Political Entourage
The roadshow caused noticeable traffic disruptions for several hours in key areas including Racecourse Road, Khajamalai, and Kottapattu. Despite these inconveniences, the event proceeded smoothly with organized crowd management.
Vijay was accompanied by fellow TVK candidates R Kathiravan from Manapparai and Ku Pa Krishnan from Lalgudi, showcasing party unity and collective campaigning efforts. Supporters presented various gifts during the roadshow, including photo frames—one particularly significant frame featured Lord Ranganathar of Srirangam, symbolizing cultural and religious connections.
Public Reactions and Political Significance
"I came specifically to see Vijay. He is attracting a huge crowd and effectively projecting himself as a credible alternative to both Dravidian and national political parties," remarked S Ganesan, an 84-year-old resident of TVS Nagar, capturing the sentiment of many attendees.
However, some party cadres expressed disappointment that Vijay did not address the gathering directly, missing an opportunity for direct communication with supporters. This strategic choice to avoid speeches emphasized the symbolic nature of the roadshow, focusing instead on visual and religious symbolism over oratory.
The event underscores Vijay's campaign strategy of combining grassroots engagement with religious inclusivity, positioning himself as a candidate who respects and represents diverse communities within the Trichy region.
