TVK President Vijay's Trichy Campaign Descends into Chaos with Accidents and Injuries
Actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay's campaign rally in Trichy on Thursday spiraled into disorder, resulting in multiple accidents, severe traffic violations, and a police constable sustaining a serious leg fracture. The injured officer was struck by a car belonging to TVK general secretary for election campaign management, Aadhav Arjuna, amid the post-event confusion.
Police Constable Hospitalized After Campaign Vehicle Incident
The injured constable has been identified as S Sathish, aged 27, who is attached to the Tamil Nadu Special Police Battalion. He was performing his duty at Marakkadai near Gandhi Market, the location where Vijay conducted his campaign event. After Vijay concluded his campaign activities around 1 PM and began departing the venue with other senior leaders, police personnel started removing fencing and barricades to facilitate vehicle movement as the crowd dispersed.
In the ensuing chaos, Aadhav Arjuna's car accidentally struck Constable Sathish. The vehicle's front wheel ran over his right leg, causing a significant fracture. TVK party cadres immediately rushed Sathish to a government hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit for treatment. Around 3 PM, Arjuna along with several other party functionaries visited the injured constable at the hospital to check on his condition.
Multiple Accidents and Traffic Disruptions During Campaign Activities
Earlier in the day, as Vijay was traveling to the corporation zone II office near Palakkarai to file his nomination papers, another accident occurred. A couple riding a motorcycle parallel to his convoy fell on the road near Melapudur around 11:20 AM, sustaining injuries. Police officers and members of the public quickly rushed to assist them. Noticing the accident, Vijay stepped out of his vehicle, approached the couple, and inquired about their wellbeing.
The actor-politician advised them to drive more carefully and specifically recommended that the woman seek proper medical attention. Despite the fall, the couple eventually left the scene on the same motorcycle. TVK had previously issued requests to supporters asking them not to follow Vijay's vehicle as it proceeded to campaign venues, but hundreds of people ignored these appeals.
Massive Crowds Cause Exhaustion and Traffic Gridlock
Between 11 AM and 11:30 AM, large crowds trailed Vijay's convoy from Trichy airport to Palakkarai, creating substantial commotion among the general public. At the Marakkadai gathering point, the massive assembly led to at least two women collapsing from exhaustion. One of them required immediate medical attention and was rushed to Trichy Government Hospital for treatment.
Vijay's visit caused severe traffic congestion across multiple Trichy locations including Gandhi Market, Thennur, Singarathope, Puthur, and the Head Post Office area. A police officer confirmed that cases would be registered concerning the accidents and traffic violations that occurred during the campaign events. The incidents highlight the challenges of managing large political gatherings and the safety concerns that arise when crowds exceed manageable limits.
