West Bengal Government Orders Major Police Reshuffle and Expands Administrative Structure
The West Bengal state government implemented a significant administrative overhaul on Thursday, directing a series of high-level police transfers and approving the creation of numerous additional posts across various state services. This move aims to streamline law enforcement operations and strengthen the administrative framework within the state.
Key Police Officer Transfers Announced
In a major reshuffle of senior police personnel, the state government has issued transfer orders affecting several Superintendents of Police (SP). Hossain Mehedi Rehman, who previously served as the Basirhat Police Superintendent, has been directed to take charge as the new SP of Jangipur. This key appointment is expected to bring fresh leadership to the Jangipur police district.
Concurrently, Arish Bilal has been appointed as the new Basirhat SP. Bilal brings extensive experience from his prior role as the Special Superintendent of the Intelligence Branch, a position that involved critical investigative and intelligence-gathering responsibilities. His expertise is anticipated to enhance policing efforts in the Basirhat region.
The reshuffle also involves other notable transfers: Shaw Kumar Amit, the former SP of Jangipur, has been reassigned to the post of SP in Alipurduar. Meanwhile, K Umesh Ganpat, who previously held the Alipurduar SP position, has been posted as the Special Superintendent (SS) of the Intelligence Branch for north Bengal. These strategic moves are designed to optimize police leadership across different districts and specialized units.
Creation of Additional Administrative Posts
In a parallel development, the state government has officially notified the creation of a substantial number of new positions to bolster its administrative capabilities. Following a cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on social media that the government will establish 20% additional posts across various state services. This expansion is intended to address growing administrative demands and improve service delivery to citizens.
Furthermore, the state secretariat, Nabanna, has decided to enhance the West Bengal Secretariat Services (WBSS) by creating six additional posts for joint secretaries. This decision increases the total strength of joint secretaries within the WBSS from the previous number to 36, thereby strengthening the secretariat's operational capacity and facilitating more efficient governance.
The combined initiatives of police reshuffling and post creation underscore the state government's commitment to reinforcing both law enforcement and administrative structures. These measures are expected to contribute to more effective policing and smoother administrative processes throughout West Bengal.
