The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of attacking its candidates and polling agents, while the TMC has categorically denied all allegations.
BJP Candidate Assaulted in Kumarganj
In Kumarganj, BJP candidate Subhendu Sarkar alleged that he was assaulted by a mob after he protested against the obstruction of polling agents at a booth. Sarkar claimed that the attackers were supporters of the ruling TMC. He sustained injuries and was immediately hospitalized, while his vehicle was reportedly vandalized during the incident.
Agnimitra Paul's Car Attacked in Asansol
In a separate incident, BJP leader Agnimitra Paul reported that her car was attacked in the Asansol South constituency. According to her, stones were thrown at the vehicle, causing damage. Paul, who is contesting from the seat, blamed TMC workers for the attack.
BJP Polling Agent Injured in Birbhum
In Birbhum district, a BJP polling agent was seriously injured in an alleged assault. The party claimed that the agent was attacked while performing his duties at a polling station. The BJP has accused the local authorities of failing to provide adequate security during the voting process.
TMC Denies Allegations
The Trinamool Congress has strongly denied all allegations of violence and attacks. Party spokespersons dismissed the BJP's claims as baseless and politically motivated. They accused the BJP of trying to create a narrative of violence to discredit the election process.
Security Concerns Raised
The BJP has raised serious concerns about the law and order situation during the polls, demanding stricter security measures. The Election Commission has been urged to take immediate action to ensure the safety of candidates and polling agents. Meanwhile, voting continued in other parts of the state amid tight security.
