Western Railway Mumbai Announces Early Morning Service Disruption on Sunday
Mumbai's suburban and select long-distance train services on the Western Railway network are set to experience significant disruptions in the early hours of Sunday. This is due to a major block scheduled at Prabhadevi for girder-related work, coupled with a jumbo block in the Vasai Road–Virar section during the intervening night of March 21 and 22.
Details of the Prabhadevi Traffic and Power Block
The traffic and power block on all lines at Prabhadevi will be enforced from 1:30 am to 6:00 am. This measure is crucial to facilitate critical infrastructure work on the road overbridge, ensuring long-term operational safety and connectivity enhancements.
During this period, no suburban train services will operate between Churchgate and Prabhadevi. Key stations such as Matunga Road and Mahim will remain unserved, while several trains will be short-terminated or reversed at major hubs like Dadar and Bandra.
Western Railway officials have confirmed that some suburban services will be cancelled or short-terminated, and a few mail/express trains will also be regulated as a direct consequence of this block.
Vasai Road–Virar Jumbo Block Impact
In addition to the Prabhadevi disruption, a jumbo block will be implemented on the UP and DOWN local lines between Vasai Road and Virar from 12:15 am to 4:15 am. During this timeframe, local trains will be diverted to run on through (fast) lines between Virar/Vasai Road and Borivali.
This diversion is expected to impact normal suburban operations in the northern section of the Western Railway network, potentially causing delays and adjustments to regular schedules.
Purpose and Passenger Advisory
The twin blocks are integral components of ongoing infrastructure and maintenance initiatives aimed at improving operational safety and connectivity across the Western Railway suburban network. These works are part of a broader effort to enhance service reliability and passenger experience in the long run.
Passengers are strongly advised to plan their journeys accordingly, particularly during the early morning hours when services will be affected across these key sections. Travelers should anticipate possible delays, cancellations, or alternative arrangements and consider adjusting their schedules to minimize inconvenience.
For those relying on these routes, staying updated with official announcements from Western Railway is recommended to navigate the disruptions smoothly.
