CM Yogi Cracks Whip on Slow Budget Spending, Directs Action on 20 Key Departments
Yogi Adityanath Directs Action on Slow Budget Utilisation

In a decisive move to accelerate development work, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken stern note of sluggish budget spending in several state departments. During a high-level review on Friday, the CM directed his office to identify the lagging departments and issue formal letters to the concerned ministers, demanding immediate corrective action.

Review of 20 Major Departments

The Chief Minister held a detailed meeting to assess the progress of the 2025-26 budget utilisation across 20 key departments that have received major allocations. Officials from these departments presented their progress on government approvals, allocations, and the actual expenditure against the budget provisions for the current financial year.

Yogi Adityanath pointed out that the pace of budget utilisation was unsatisfactory in a few departments. He instructed the concerned ministers and senior officers to hold monthly review meetings to ensure maximum fund utilisation is achieved before the end of the financial year.

Push for Timely Expenditure and Central Funds

Emphasising the critical link between timely spending and project completion, the CM stated that officers must develop the capacity to make prompt decisions to adhere to stipulated timelines. "Delays in decision-making hamper timely expenditure," he remarked, adding that accountability must be fixed at every level to prevent such bottlenecks.

In a significant directive, the CM asked the state finance department to release any pending allocations to these 20 departments without delay. Furthermore, he ordered officials to actively pursue any pending budget releases from the Central government. Ministers and department heads have been empowered to visit Delhi, write letters, and follow up via phone calls with the central government. Chief Secretary S.P. Goyal has been tasked with coordinating this crucial exercise.

Preparations for Future Budgets Begin

Looking ahead, Yogi Adityanath has also set the wheels in motion for the next fiscal cycle. He directed the finance department to immediately commence the process of reviewing budget demands with all departments for the upcoming financial year 2026-27.

He stressed that before allocating the next budget, a thorough assessment of expenditure trends over the past five years must be conducted. The finance department has been instructed to start preparations for a new action plan based on this review, ensuring a more efficient and outcome-oriented budgetary process in the future.
