Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath Calls for Revenue Boost Post International Tour

Following his four-day diplomatic and business visit to Singapore and Japan, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath convened a high-level review meeting on Friday. He issued a directive to all state departments to ramp up their efforts in achieving the revenue targets set for the current financial year.

Comprehensive Review of Tax and Non-Tax Revenue

During the meeting, officials presented a detailed assessment of tax and non-tax revenue collections up to the end of February. The state has collected Rs 1,96,177 crore against an annual tax revenue target of Rs 2,95,000 crore. Specifically, for state tax, the collection stands at Rs 1,03,770 crore, which is against a target of Rs 1,75,725 crore. This includes Rs 75,195 crore under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and Rs 28,575 crore under Value Added Tax (VAT).

The tax department highlighted significant advancements in compliance, attributing success to initiatives like GST 2.0, artificial intelligence-based risk analysis systems, extensive scrutiny processes, e-invoicing implementation, and rigorous monitoring of e-way bills. Key achievements include the inspection of 1.59 lakh taxpayers through AI-driven systems, curbing fake input tax credit claims, and recovering Rs 3,117 crore in revenue.

Performance of Key Departments

The excise department reported collecting Rs 48,501 crore against a target of Rs 63,000 crore for the 2025-26 period. Despite falling short, this represents a 13.2% increase compared to the previous year. Officials outlined a strategic roadmap aimed at generating an additional Rs 9,050 crore in March. This plan focuses on consumption-based strategies, renewal of shop licenses, fee collections, and wholesale and brand renewal processes, with an optimistic projection to reach approximately Rs 57,550 crore by the fiscal year's end.

The stamp and registration department recorded collections of Rs 29,487 crore against a target of Rs 38,150 crore. Additionally, the department provided insights into potential revenue streams from upcoming residential and commercial projects in development authorities across regions such as Yamuna Expressway, Greater Noida, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Bareilly, Gorakhpur, and Varanasi.

Meanwhile, the transport department collected Rs 11,005 crore against a target of Rs 14,000 crore. Improvements were noted in vehicle registration numbers, enhanced tax payment systems, technology-based monitoring mechanisms, and strengthened enforcement actions.

In a joint report, the land revenue and energy departments announced a collection of Rs 3,414 crore, marking a 12.6% increase from the same period in the previous year.

CM's Directives for Enhanced Governance and Safety

Emphasizing the critical role of higher revenue in driving state development, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued specific instructions to various departments. He called upon the excise department to maintain heightened vigilance during the Holi festival to prevent the production and sale of illegal and poisonous liquor.

Furthermore, Yogi sought updates from the stamp and registration department on the progress of land record digitization initiatives and urged the acceleration of modernization efforts in registry offices. He also directed the transport department to ensure the fitness of public buses, develop a concrete action plan to reduce road accidents, and improve overall transport services for citizens.
