Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath Issues Stern Warning on Babri Structure
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath delivered a firm message on Tuesday, declaring that individuals who harbor dreams of reconstructing the Babri structure must strictly adhere to the law of the land. He emphasized that such aspirations are futile and will never materialize in India.
"Live by the Rules": Adityanath's Direct Address
Speaking at a public event in Barabanki, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader asserted, "Those who are dreaming of the Babri structure, to them I would like to say that the day will never come." He further advised, "Learn to live by the rules in India. Abide by the law of the land. If someone breaks the rules, the path will lead them straight to hell." This statement underscores his commitment to legal adherence and national integrity.
Criticism of Opportunists and Ramdrohis
Adityanath also took a pointed jab at what he described as "opportunists" who only remember Lord Ram during personal crises but neglect spiritual devotion afterward. "Some opportunists remember Lord Ram when they face crises and forget Him later. So Lord Ram has also forgotten them. They will not succeed now. They will never go forward now," he remarked, highlighting a perceived hypocrisy in faith-based politics.
Additionally, he condemned "Ramdrohis"—a term referring to those opposed to Lord Ram—stating there is "no place" for individuals who fire bullets at devotees. This comment alludes to the November 1990 incident in Ayodhya, where Uttar Pradesh Police opened fire on karsevaks attempting to demolish the Babri Masjid during the Samajwadi Party government led by Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Historical Context of the Ayodhya Dispute
The Babri Masjid was ultimately demolished by karsevaks on December 6, 1992. At that time, the BJP government under Kalyan Singh chose not to order police firing, leading to his resignation and the subsequent dismissal of his administration by the central government. This historical backdrop adds depth to Adityanath's recent remarks, connecting past events with present political narratives.
Supreme Court Verdict and Ram Mandir Inauguration
In a landmark decision in November 2019, a Constitution bench of the Supreme Court, headed by then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, unanimously resolved the long-standing Ayodhya dispute. The court ruled that the 2.77-acre contested land be transferred to a government-run trust for the construction of the Ram Mandir. Simultaneously, it directed the allocation of an alternative five-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a mosque, aiming to foster communal harmony.
The Ayodhya Ram Mandir was officially inaugurated in January 2024, marking a significant milestone in India's cultural and religious landscape. Adityanath's statements reflect ongoing political discourse surrounding this sensitive issue, reinforcing legal and constitutional frameworks while addressing historical grievances.
