Uttar Pradesh Establishes High-Power Committee to Oversee Central Schemes

In a significant administrative move, the Uttar Pradesh government has formed a high-power committee to monitor the implementation of key central government schemes across the state. The committee will be chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, with Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya serving as the deputy chairman.

Committee Composition and Mandate

The committee's formation was formalized through a notification issued by the state's rural development department. Its primary objective is to review and coordinate with the district-level District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA committee) to ensure smoother operations of central schemes at the grassroots level.

The panel includes a diverse representation from various political parties and administrative bodies:

  • Twelve Members of Parliament, including SP chief Akhilesh Yadav (Kannauj MP), Congress' Amethi MP Kishori Lal Sharma, RLD MP Rajkumar Sangwan, and Apna Dal chief and Union minister Anupriya Patel (Mirzapur MP).
  • Nine members from the Uttar Pradesh legislature, such as Congress MLA Aradhana Mishra, BSP MLA Uma Shankar Singh, BJP MLA Purushottam Khandelwal, and BJP MLCs Anup Gupta and Saket Mishra.
  • Additional chief secretaries from key departments including rural development, panchayati raj, finance, and revenue.

Enhanced Oversight and Accountability

The committee is empowered to investigate potential anomalies in scheme implementation, including issues like diversion of funds and faulty selection of beneficiaries. This move is seen as a critical step towards enhancing transparency and accountability in the execution of flagship programs that directly impact public welfare.

Experts highlight that this development reflects a growing emphasis on tighter oversight, convergence, and real-time accountability in governance. By centralizing monitoring under the Chief Minister's leadership, the state aims to address bottlenecks and ensure that schemes like MNREGA and PM Awas Yojana achieve their intended outcomes more effectively.

The establishment of this CM-headed panel marks a notable shift in Uttar Pradesh's administrative approach, signaling a proactive stance towards optimizing the delivery of central initiatives for the benefit of its citizens.
