Yogi Adityanath Oversees Varanasi Preparations for PM Modi's Major Public Rally
In Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath conducted a comprehensive review of preparations on Tuesday ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to his parliamentary constituency on April 28. The visit, which includes a grand public meeting, is strategically timed to highlight the opposition parties' blockage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, the women's reservation legislation in Parliament.
Focus on Women's Mobilization and Political Messaging
Amid renewed political discourse on the stalled women's reservation bill, the Bharatiya Janata Mahila Morcha, the BJP's women's wing, is actively mobilizing support. Through mandal-level meetings, they aim to gather over 50,000 women for the public meeting in Kashi. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to expose opposition parties for obstructing the bill and to raise awareness about their perceived anti-women stance. The rally is set to be an all-women-managed event, emphasizing the party's commitment to gender empowerment.
Infrastructure and Logistical Arrangements Under Scrutiny
During his two-day visit, CM Adityanath directed officials to ensure all preparations for the 'Mahila Sammelan' are completed efficiently. Key directives included:
- Security and Facilities: Emphasis was placed on watertight security arrangements, adequate parking, drinking water, and other essential amenities at the venue.
- Cleanliness and Order: The CM stressed the importance of cleanliness not only at the rally site but across the entire city. He ordered that stray dogs and loose cattle be relocated to shelter homes and that street vendors be properly managed.
- Traffic Management: Officials were instructed to optimize route diversions to minimize inconvenience to the general public during the event.
Review of Development Projects in Varanasi
Divisional Commissioner S Rajlingam presented a detailed briefing via PowerPoint on projects slated for inauguration and foundation-laying during the Prime Minister's proposed visit. A total of 48 projects worth Rs 6,784 crore have been compiled, including:
- Major Infrastructure: The proposed double-decker bridge over the Ganga, parallel to the iconic Malviya Bridge, is a top priority for foundation-laying.
- Accelerated Work: CM Adityanath urged officials to speed up the ropeway project and complete the International Cricket Stadium at Ganjari on a war footing, with a target finish by the first week of July.
- Road Development: Road widening at Manikarnika Ghat and Dalmandi was also ordered to be expedited and completed on schedule.
This review underscores the BJP's dual focus on political mobilization around women's issues and advancing infrastructure development in Varanasi, aligning with PM Modi's vision for the constituency.
