Mumbai Police Couple's Son, 10, Wins Gold & Bronze at National Skating Championship
10-year-old son of Mumbai cops wins national skating medals

In a remarkable achievement that has filled the Brihanmumbai Police force with pride, the young son of two serving officers has triumphed on the national stage. Ten-year-old Om Sainath Shinde secured a gold and a bronze medal at the prestigious 69th School Games Federation of India (SGFI) National Skating Championship.

A Rigorous Path to National Glory

The national tournament was held recently at ITM Global School in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, bringing together the country's top young skating talent. Om competed in the under-11 category. His victory was hard-earned, following an exhaustive selection process. The competition began at the district level, where only three skaters were chosen from each district. These winners then faced further shortlisting at the zonal level within cities. Ultimately, only the top three skaters from each state earned the right to compete at the national meet.

For the Mumbai-based prodigy, the championship presented a unique challenge. Accustomed to his city's humid climate, Om had to perform in the chilly temperatures of Gwalior, which ranged between 8°C and 10°C. Despite the unfamiliar and cold conditions, he demonstrated exceptional technical control and consistency to secure his place on the podium twice.

The Grueling Daily Routine Behind the Success

Om's medals are a testament not just to talent, but to immense discipline. His mother, Police Constable Bhagyeshri Sainath Shinde, outlined her son's demanding daily schedule. "His skating practice starts at 3.30 am. He returns by 6 am, and then attends regular school from 8 am to 3 pm. Even after that, he goes for swimming or other physical training," she revealed.

Managing this rigorous routine is a family effort. Both parents serve with the Brihanmumbai Police and work in opposing shifts—Bhagyeshri on day duty and Om's father, Sainath Kashinath Shinde, on night duty. Bhagyeshri admitted that balancing their son's ambitions with their professional duties, especially during ongoing municipal election assignments, has been challenging. "It is difficult to keep up, but we find time to support him," she stated.

Olympic Dreams and Acknowledged Guidance

Bhagyeshri credited her son's unwavering focus and the expert guidance of his coach, Raj Singh, for this national-level success. She also shared Om's soaring ambition, noting that this victory has only sharpened his resolve. "He is determined to win an Olympic medal for India, and this victory has made him even more focused," the proud mother added.

The story of Om Sainath Shinde is a powerful blend of youthful dedication and parental sacrifice, showcasing how supportive environments within families like those in the police force can nurture extraordinary talent for the nation.
