Aishwary Tomar Shatters World Record with 470.5 at National Shooting Championship
Aishwary Tomar sets world record score of 470.5 in Bhopal

In a breathtaking display of skill and composure, world championship silver medallist Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar lit up the MP Shooting Academy in Bhopal on Tuesday, setting a new national record with a world record-equalling score at the 68th National Shooting Championship.

A Record-Breaking Performance

The 23-year-old rifle ace clinched the gold medal in the men's 50m rifle three positions event with a staggering final score of 470.5 points. This remarkable tally surpassed the existing global mark by a significant margin of 1.6 points. While the score itself is a world record, it will not be officially ratified by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) as it was achieved at a national championship event.

Tomar's road to gold began with a dominant qualification round, where he matched his own national record of 597 points. He had first set this benchmark earlier this year at the prestigious ISSF World Cup Final in Doha. This qualification performance showcased his exceptional consistency across all three demanding positions: kneeling, prone, and standing.

Nerves of Steel in the Final

Entering the final as the top qualifier, Tomar displayed immense mental fortitude. His near-flawless execution and calm demeanour under pressure were on full display, underlining why he is considered one of the brightest stars in Indian shooting. The final saw him build an unassailable lead with a series of high-scoring shots.

The podium was completed by Navy marksman Niraj Kumar, who secured the silver medal with a score of 463.7 points. The bronze medal went to Akhil Sheoran of Uttar Pradesh, who finished with 451.8 points.

Cementing a Legacy of Excellence

This landmark victory in Bhopal further solidifies Aishwary Tomar's status as India's premier rifle shooter. It comes on the heels of his recent success in Doha last month, where he won the silver medal in the same 50m Rifle 3 Positions event at the ISSF World Cup Final. That performance at the Lusail Shooting Complex had already completed his full set of medals across all major world and continental championships.

Tomar's world record-breaking feat on home soil serves as a massive inspiration for the entire Indian shooting contingent. It highlights the incredible depth of talent emerging from the national circuit and sets incredibly high expectations as the country looks ahead to upcoming international competitions. This performance not only boosts Tomar's confidence but also reinforces India's growing stature as a powerhouse in the sport of shooting globally.
