Andreeva reaches French Open semifinals with dominant win

PARIS: Mirra Andreeva stormed into the Roland Garros semifinals, overpowering Sorana Cirstea under the roof at Court Philippe-Chatrier on a rain-interrupted Tuesday. The 19-year-old eighth seed, who experienced a meltdown in the last eight 12 months ago when she succumbed to unheralded Lois Boisson before a wildly cheering home crowd, was in command from the very start, securing a 6-0, 6-3 victory.

"I feel like this year here in Paris the crowd was not really against me like that," Andreeva said. "If that would happen again, I feel like it would be a little bit easier for me to handle, I would know how to fix the things."

Andreeva will now face Marta Kostyuk, who defeated her in the final of the Madrid 1000, for a place in the final. Kostyuk extended her winning streak to 17 matches after overcoming Elina Svitolina 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 to reach her maiden Grand Slam semifinal. Svitolina struggled as Kostyuk powered through the last three games, losing just two points.

Meanwhile, second-seeded Alexander Zverev survived an early scare, rallying from 2-5 down in the opening set to secure a 7-6 (3), 6-1, 6-3 victory over Rafael Jodar and advance to the semifinals.
