The Cycling and Adventure Club of Bhavan Vidyalaya, Sector 27, Chandigarh, successfully concluded its eighth annual cyclothon, a high-altitude expedition covering 425 kilometers from Manali to Leh. The event was flagged off by Anirudh Tewari, Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Chandigarh.
Journey Details
A team of 20 students and six teachers began their journey from the north portal of the Atal Tunnel in Manali. The expedition followed a rigorous schedule, passing through Manali, Jispa, Sarchu, Pang, Upshi, and Leh. Along the way, the cyclists crossed key high passes such as Baralacha La and Tanglang La, and traversed the More Plains.
Tribute and Activities
The team concluded their journey at the Hall of Fame in Leh, where they paid tributes to the martyrs of the Kargil War. During the expedition, they also visited the Indian Astronomical Observatory in Hanle, one of the world's highest observatories. Additionally, the students participated in a supervised simulated shooting session, where they were introduced to handling rifles and pistols under expert guidance.
Interaction with Olympian
Hockey Olympian and Padma Shri recipient Major Ignace Tirki interacted with the students during the cyclothon, inspiring them with his experiences. The expedition was organized by the Cycling and Adventure Club of Bhavan Vidyalaya, which aims to promote adventure sports and physical fitness among students.
