Chhattisgarh has officially started talks with the Union sports ministry about hosting the 2028 National Games. Senior officials from the state's sports body held detailed discussions with Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi.
Key Meeting in the National Capital
The interaction happened during a programme organised by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) in New Delhi. Representatives from various state Olympic associations and sports federations attended this event. Chhattisgarh Olympic Association General Secretary Vikram Sisodia raised the important issue of allotting the National Games to the state.
Reviving an Old Proposal
Sisodia informed Minister Mandaviya that Chhattisgarh received approval from the IOA and the Union sports ministry back in 2012 to host the National Games. However, the event could not be held at that time. Now, the state is eager to revive this proposal. Chhattisgarh feels fully prepared to host the Games in 2028.
During the discussions, Sisodia pointed out recent developments. Uttarakhand hosted the 38th National Games. The 39th edition is scheduled in Meghalaya. Preparations are currently underway for the 40th National Games. He urged the Centre to consider Chhattisgarh for the next cycle after these events.
Strong Sports Infrastructure in Place
The Union minister learned that Chhattisgarh has significantly strengthened its sports infrastructure over the years. Stadiums and facilities in key cities like Raipur, Durg, and Bilaspur are now suitable for hosting a large multi-sport event like the National Games. Other venues across the state also meet the required standards.
Gratitude for Tribal Games Initiative
Sisodia also expressed gratitude for the initiative to organise the Tribal Games in Chhattisgarh. He stated that such events help strengthen the sporting culture in the state. This move supports grassroots sports development and encourages local talent.
Chhattisgarh's push for the 2028 National Games highlights its commitment to sports. The state believes it can successfully host this prestigious event with its improved facilities and proactive approach.
