Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Sunday stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is not against any community, rejecting allegations of divisive politics. Speaking at a public event, he accused the Congress party and former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru of adopting a policy of appeasement, which he claimed has harmed the nation's social fabric.
Gadkari's Allegations Against Congress and Nehru
Gadkari alleged that the Congress party and Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru were responsible for spreading misconceptions about the Jana Sangh, the BJP's predecessor. He claimed that the Congress used appeasement as a political tool to gain votes, which led to the marginalization of certain communities. "The Congress and Nehru adopted a policy of appeasement, and they spread false narratives about the Jana Sangh to vilify it," Gadkari said.
BJP's Commitment to Inclusive Growth
The Union Minister emphasized that the BJP believes in inclusive development and equal treatment for all citizens. "Our party does not discriminate against any community. We work for the welfare of every Indian, regardless of caste or religion," he added. Gadkari's remarks come amid ongoing political debates over minority rights and secularism in India.
Response to Political Criticism
Gadkari's statement appears to be a response to recent criticisms from opposition parties, who have accused the BJP of promoting a majoritarian agenda. The Congress party has yet to officially respond to Gadkari's allegations. However, political analysts suggest that the BJP is attempting to counter narratives of intolerance ahead of upcoming state elections.
