Former Los Angeles Lakers forward Christian Wood finds himself embroiled in a serious and escalating legal conflict, with new court filings revealing disturbing allegations concerning the safety of his young son. The case, which has moved beyond sports headlines, involves claims of surveillance and violations of court-mandated boundaries.
Tracking Device Found in Diaper Bag: Wood's Allegations
According to legal documents submitted on Tuesday, January 6, Christian Wood has made a serious accusation against his former partner, Yasmine Lopez. Wood claims that Lopez hid a Tile tracking device inside the diaper bag of their two-year-old son, Kobe. The device was allegedly discovered by Wood's sister following a routine custody exchange, who noticed a concealed opening in the bag.
In his filing, Wood stated, "The tracking device was carefully hidden inside Kobe’s diaper bag with the intent to not be found." He emphasized that he never authorized any such device and that it was not disclosed to him. Wood expressed deep concern, arguing the tracker was placed to monitor his movements and location through his son, thereby obtaining confidential information about his residence—information Lopez is legally prohibited from having under an existing court order.
Wood, who currently has primary custody of Kobe, connected this incident to past safety fears. He referenced a temporary restraining order granted in November 2025 and wrote, "The last time [Lopez] had my residential address, there was an attempt made on my life. My safety has once again been compromised."
Lopez's Defence: A Standard Safety Measure
In response to the allegations, Yasmine Lopez offered a starkly different narrative through her representative. She denied targeting Wood specifically, explaining that using location trackers is a standard safety protocol for her children.
The statement read, "Yasmine uses location trackers for both of her children at all times as a standard safety measure. The device is kept in their school or diaper bags and travels with them daily... This practice has been in place for some time and is not specific to, or directed at, Christian." Lopez framed the action as part of her consistent approach to ensuring her children's safety and her own peace of mind.
Escalating Conflict and Upcoming Court Hearing
The opposing accounts have intensified an already complex custody and legal battle. With restraining orders currently in place for both parties, the new allegations add a layer of urgency. The legal filings detail conflicting stories, each backed by detailed statements, ensuring the matter will be thoroughly examined by the judicial system.
All eyes are now on a court hearing scheduled for January 14, where these serious allegations and counterclaims are expected to be addressed directly. The outcome could have significant implications for the ongoing custody arrangements and the legal standing of both individuals involved.
