Australian Hockey Star Blake Govers Balances Real Estate Career with Elite Sport

Australian hockey star Blake Govers lives two distinct lives with remarkable ease. Off the field, he works as a soft-spoken real estate agent in Perth. On the pitch, his hockey stick becomes his voice, speaking volumes through powerful drag-flicks and precise goals.

A Prolific Goal-Scorer with Major Achievements

The 28-year-old athlete from Perth has established himself as a key player for Australia. He boasts an impressive record of over 100 goals for the national team. Govers contributed significantly to Australia's silver medal performance at the Tokyo Olympics. He also played a crucial role in securing the gold medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Real Estate Provides Financial Stability

Hockey alone does not generate sufficient income in Australia, prompting Govers to pursue real estate. He started working in this field back in 2019. "Real estate is something that I enjoy," Govers explained. "I have a great boss who manages my work when I am away from Perth. We share an excellent working relationship."

His interest in property began early. "I started investing in a few properties when I was young. It was just a hobby at the beginning," he recalled. Govers finds that his communication skills benefit both his real estate work and his hockey career. "Everything has just kind of fallen into place for me," he noted with satisfaction.

Hockey Lessons Translate to Property Sales

Govers currently represents the Tamil Nadu Dragons in the men's Hockey India League. He has also played for clubs like Wimbledon, Bloemendaal, and NSW Waratahs. These diverse experiences have taught him valuable lessons.

"Playing hockey for various teams with different cultures helps immensely," Govers observed. "You learn to handle people from varied backgrounds. The lessons from sport come in handy while selling houses. You deal with many clients from different demographics."

He emphasized the importance of communication and performance under pressure. "It's about making sure everyone feels properly looked after. You handle a lot of emotions in both fields," Govers added.

Pursuing Education for Future Growth

To enhance his skills further, Govers is currently studying finance and property investment at Curtin University in Western Australia. He joked about feeling like a jack of all trades and master of none. "Sometimes, I just wish I could be a full-time hockey player. Financially, that's not possible in Perth," he admitted.

The Hockey India League offers a welcome change. "The HIL is good because it allows me to settle in and be a full-time athlete again. I can focus on my body, train properly, and give my full attention to hockey," Govers said.

Choosing Balance Over Full-Time Professional Play

While many teammates play overseas as full-time professionals, Govers prefers to remain in Perth. He prioritizes family and a balanced lifestyle while continuing to excel in hockey. This approach allows him to maintain both his sporting career and his real estate business successfully.
