Ranchi: Sweta Prasad, a 17-year-old student from Yogoda Satsang Intermediate Mahavidyalaya, topped the commerce stream in the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) intermediate examination with 95.6% marks. She attributed her success to "quiet determination in difficult circumstances."
Background and Family Support
Her father, Ajay Prasad, is a seasonal farmer who cultivates wheat and rice. Her mother is a homemaker and cares for Sweta's ailing siblings, who require regular medical attention. Despite the challenges, Sweta remained focused on her goal. "I always believed I could top. I didn't say it loudly, but I kept working towards it every day," she said.
Academic Performance and Aspirations
Sweta secured 478 marks out of 500, including a perfect score of 100 in business mathematics, which she considers her strongest subject. She now aspires to become a chartered accountant. "There were times when studies felt secondary because of things at home, but I reminded myself why I started," she added.
Financial Constraints and Determination
Unable to afford private coaching, Sweta relied on school guidance and self-study. Her family had to take loans from relatives to support her board exam preparation. "I knew every rupee mattered. That pushed me to give my best," she said. Her father expressed pride, stating, "We had limited means, but my daughter never complained. She stayed focused. Today, her hard work has given us hope."
Future Plans
As the youngest in her family, Sweta believes this achievement is just the beginning. "Now, I want to become a CA and support my family," she said. In the JAC results, Krishna Kumar Barnwal of Ranchi secured second place with 472 marks, and Priyanshi Khatri from Chaibasa came third with 471 marks.
