Three young men lost their lives in two separate road accidents in Chatra district, police said on Wednesday.
First Incident: Cousins Killed in Scooter-Truck Collision
In the first incident, two cousins — Shashikant (30) of Padma village and Saurabh Kumar alias Chhotu of Kuju village — died when a speeding coal-laden truck rammed their scooter on the Tandwa–Piparwar road near Block More early Wednesday. The two were travelling towards Basaria-Laranga carrying a battery when the truck, coming from the opposite direction, lost control and hit the scooter, running over them. Both died on the spot and the scooter was mangled, police said.
Locals said they were going to help Shankar Mahto, a truck driver stranded near Basaria for nearly three days after his vehicle broke down. Shashikant leaves behind an eight-month-old child. Officer in-charge of Tandwa police station Pappu Sharma said, “Efforts were on to arrest the truck driver.”
Second Incident: Man Run Over on NH-22
In another incident, Vikas Kumar Yadav (23) was run over by a speeding truck on NH-22 near Murainwa village under Vashisth Nagar police station late Tuesday night. He was returning from a wedding. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
