Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan also expressed his "heartiest congratulations" to Chanu for securing India's first gold medal at the Games. Historic Hat-Trick of Gold Medals
Mirabai Chanu clinched her third Commonwealth Games gold medal by lifting 105 kg in the clean and jerk category of the women's 48 kg final at Glasgow 2026. This victory also marked India's first gold medal of the Games. Chanu had previously won gold at the 2018 Gold Coast and 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, completing a hat-trick of titles.
In the snatch segment, Chanu set a Commonwealth record with an 85 kg lift. She began the clean and jerk section with an unsuccessful attempt at 82 kg but rebounded strongly, successfully lifting 82 kg in her second attempt. She then produced a stunning 85 kg lift in her third attempt to set a new Games and Commonwealth record. Finally, she attempted 105 kg and lifted it cleanly overhead to seal the gold medal.
India's First Gold at Glasgow 2026
With this performance, Chanu not only added another gold medal to her illustrious Commonwealth Games career but also gave India its first gold of the Glasgow 2026 edition. Her consistent dominance in the 48 kg category has made her one of India's most decorated weightlifters.
