Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council Secretary Nuzhat Gul has stated that the real boost for sports development comes from parents encouraging their children to take up sports. She made these remarks during a recent interaction with the media, emphasizing the importance of parental support in nurturing young talent.
Parental Role in Sports
Gul highlighted that while government initiatives and infrastructure are essential, the primary motivation for children often stems from their families. "When parents actively support and motivate their children to participate in sports, it creates a strong foundation for their growth," she said. She added that many successful athletes credit their parents for being their biggest cheerleaders.
Grassroots Initiatives
The Sports Council has been working tirelessly to promote sports at the grassroots level. Several programs have been launched to identify and train young talent across the region. "We are focusing on schools and local communities to ensure that every child gets an opportunity to explore sports," Gul explained. She also mentioned that the council is organizing coaching camps and competitions to provide a platform for budding athletes.
Challenges and Solutions
Despite these efforts, challenges remain, particularly in rural areas where access to facilities and coaching is limited. The council is addressing this by setting up mobile training units and collaborating with local bodies. "We want to bridge the gap between urban and rural sports infrastructure," Gul noted. She urged parents to take advantage of these facilities and enroll their children in sports activities.
Success Stories
Gul cited examples of young athletes from Jammu and Kashmir who have excelled in national and international events, attributing their success to family support. "These stories are a testament to what can be achieved when parents believe in their children's dreams," she said. The council is also working to provide scholarships and financial assistance to deserving athletes.
Future Plans
Looking ahead, the Sports Council plans to expand its reach through digital platforms and community engagement. "We are developing an app to connect athletes with coaches and training resources," Gul revealed. Additionally, the council aims to organize more tournaments and exposure trips for young talent. "Our goal is to create a sports culture where every child feels encouraged to play," she concluded.
