The Mumbai traffic police has released a travel advisory for the upcoming Tata Marathon 2026. This major event will take place on January 18, and it will affect traffic across the city. Authorities have planned alternate routes to ensure smooth movement for marathon runners.

Road Closures and No-Entry Zones

Several key roads will be closed to vehicular traffic from 3 am to 2 pm on January 18. The marathon route covers areas in South and Central Mumbai, including Azad Maidan, Kalbadevi, D.B. Marg, Tardeo, Worli, Bandra, Dadar, and Mahim. Here is a list of specific roads that will be shut:

The Tata Marathon features multiple race categories, each with its own route and timing. Here are the key details:

Full Marathon (Amateurs) - 42.195 km

This race starts at CSMT and ends at Mumbai Gymkhana. Runners will pass through Azad Maidan, Flora Fountain, Marine Drive, Chowpatty, Haji Ali, Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Mahim Church, Shivaji Park, Siddhivinayak Temple, and Worli Sea Face. The route uses D.N. Road, Veer Nariman Road, Marine Drive, Babulnath Marg, Pedder Road, Coastal Road, Swatantra Veer Savarkar Marg, Dr. Annie Besant Road, Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road, and M.G. Road. It runs from 5 am to 12:30 pm.

Half Marathon - 21.097 km

Starting at Mahim Causeway and finishing at OCS Chowki, this race covers Bandra reclamation, Worli Sea Face, Haji Ali, Pedder Road, and Marine Drive. The path includes Swami Vivekananda Road, Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Road, Coastal Road, Lala Lajpat Rai Road, Pedder Road, and Veer Nariman Road. It is scheduled from 5:00 am to 9:10 am.

10-Km Run

This timed run begins at CSMT and concludes at Metro Junction. Participants will see Flora Fountain, Marine Drive, NCPA, Mafatlal Gymkhana, and Marine Lines. The route follows D.N. Road, Veer Nariman Road, Madame Cama Road, N.S. Bose Road, Princess Street Flyover, and Jagannath Shankar Seth Road. It takes place from 6:00 am to 8:00 am.

Full Marathon Elite - 42.195 km

Elite runners start and finish at CSMT, passing Flora Fountain, Marine Drive, Chowpatty, Haji Ali, Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Mahim Church, Shivaji Park, and Worli. The course uses D.N. Road, Veer Nariman Road, Coastal Road, Swatantra Veer Savarkar Marg, Dr. Annie Besant Road, Pedder Road, and Marine Drive. The race runs from 7:00 am to 10:30 am.

Champion with Disability Run - 1.6 km

This is a loop starting and ending at CSMT, covering Flora Fountain via D.N. Road. It is set from 7:05 am to 7:45 am.

Senior Citizens Run - 4.2 km

Starting at CSMT and finishing at Metro Junction, this run passes Marine Drive and Marine Lines. The route includes D.N. Road, Veer Nariman Road, Princess Street Flyover, and Jagannath Shankar Seth Road. It occurs from 7:25 am to 8:45 am.

Dream Run - 5.9 km

This run begins at CSMT and ends at Metro Junction, featuring Marine Drive, NCPA, Parsee Gymkhana, and Marine Lines. The path follows D.N. Road, Veer Nariman Road, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Road, Princess Street Flyover, and Jagannath Shankar Seth Road. It is scheduled from 8:15 am to 11:00 am.

Prize Details and Event Background

The Mumbai Marathon has been an annual international event since 2004. For the 2026 edition, the top three finishers in the men's and women's categories will receive medals and prize money. The first-place winner gets Rs 50,000, the second-place winner receives Rs 30,000, and the third-place winner earns Rs 20,000. All elite marathon finishers will also get a Finisher Medal. Timing certificates will be available for download from the event website within 21 working days after the race.

Residents and commuters should plan their travel accordingly to avoid delays. The traffic police advise using alternate routes and staying updated through official channels.
