India's spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule has praised young all-rounder Harsh Dubey following his impressive debut in the first ODI against Afghanistan, highlighting his good temperament and ability to recover from difficult situations. Speaking ahead of the second ODI in Lucknow, Bahutule also noted that the Indian spin bowling department is currently in a transition phase.
Harsh Dubey's Debut Performance
Harsh Dubey, who has performed well for Vidarbha in domestic cricket over the past few years, finally earned his India cap in the first ODI against Afghanistan. He took 3 wickets for 47 runs in 5 overs. After conceding runs to Rahmanullah Gurbaz early on, Dubey made a strong comeback in the later overs, including a double-wicket over.
Bahutule's Praise for the Young All-Rounder
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Bahutule said, "Harsh definitely has a good future as an all-rounder. He has done exceedingly well for Vidarbha, which is why he got this opportunity. He learns with each game. In the last game, he was under pressure after the first over, but the way he came back was impressive. Captain Shubman Gill used him well, making the right changes at the right time and giving him favorable ends. He is a player for the future."
Bahutule added, "He has the skills and a good temperament. He proved it not only in domestic cricket but also in that one game where he bounced back strongly. Moving ahead, the more he plays, the more experience he will gain, and he will enhance his skills."
Transition Time for Indian Spinners
Noting the transition phase, Bahutule said, "For me, every spinner is unique. Ravindra Jadeja is very experienced, and his contributions to Indian cricket with bat and ball have been phenomenal. This is a transition time for spinners. Harsh and other youngsters who are getting chances will realize they have big shoes to fill. They have the capabilities and potential. The more they play, the more they will settle down. Harsh definitely has that potential, which is why he was picked. He will learn from every game and grow."
Harsh Dubey's Domestic and IPL Record
In the recent IPL season, Harsh Dubey picked 8 wickets in 8 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad at an average of 28.50. In List A cricket, he has 34 wickets in 31 matches at an average above 35, and has scored 296 runs in 17 innings with two fifties at an average of 26.50. His first-class record is even better: 133 wickets in 27 matches at an average of 23.26, including nine five-wicket hauls and two ten-wicket hauls.
