India's top men's doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, finally ended their title drought by clinching the Singapore Open Super 750 title on Sunday. The duo defeated Indonesia's Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto 21-17, 21-15 in a commanding performance at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Dominant display
The Indian pair, who had not won a title since the Swiss Open in March 2023, showed their class from the start. They dominated the net exchanges and used their powerful smashes to keep the Indonesian pair on the back foot. The first game was closely contested until 15-15, but Satwik and Chirag won six of the next eight points to take the lead.
In the second game, the Indians continued their aggressive play, racing to an 11-5 lead at the interval. The Indonesians tried to mount a comeback, but the Indian pair's defense held firm, and they sealed the match in 42 minutes.
Road to the title
Satwik and Chirag had a tough path to the final. They defeated world champions Kang Min-hyuk and Seo Seung-jae of South Korea in the semifinals and also overcame the Malaysian duo of Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik in the quarterfinals.
This victory is a significant boost for the Indian pair ahead of the upcoming World Championships and the Asian Games. It also marks their first Super 750 title, adding to their growing list of achievements.
With this win, Satwik and Chirag have proven that they are back to their best after a lean patch. Their combination of power and precision makes them a formidable force in world badminton.
