Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laid the foundation stone for a new international stadium in Anekal on Wednesday. The stadium, with a seating capacity of 80,000, is being developed by the Karnataka Housing Board (KHB) at an estimated cost of Rs 950 crore.
Project Details
The state-of-the-art facility is expected to become a major hub for cricket and other sports events. The KHB has been tasked with overseeing the construction, which is slated to be completed within the next three years. The stadium will feature modern amenities, including VIP lounges, corporate boxes, and practice facilities.
Significance for Karnataka
This project is part of the state government's efforts to boost sports infrastructure and attract international sporting events. Currently, Karnataka has the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which has a capacity of around 40,000. The new stadium in Anekal will more than double the state's premium seating capacity, positioning Karnataka as a key destination for global sports.
Speaking at the event, CM Siddaramaiah emphasized that the stadium would provide a platform for young athletes and create employment opportunities. He also noted that the project aligns with the government's vision of developing Anekal as a satellite township.
The announcement has been welcomed by sports enthusiasts and local residents. The stadium is expected to host international cricket matches, football games, and cultural events once completed.
