Born on May 17, 1961, in Benaulim, Antonio Mascarenhas lived a life characterized by remarkable discipline, athletic excellence, and a deep-seated commitment to nurturing young talent. His early years saw him move to Mumbai alongside his younger brother, Sebastian. It was at Antonio D’Souza High School (ANZA) in Byculla where his athletic journey truly began to flourish and take shape.
From Athletic Prodigy to Community Leader
A naturally gifted sprinter and hurdler, Mascarenhas emerged as one of the finest school athletes of his era. His exceptional talent earned him recognition and commendation from the legendary Indian athlete Milkha Singh—a moment that stood as a powerful testament to his athletic prowess and dedication.
After a long professional stint with Qatar Airways, Mascarenhas returned to his home state of Goa and co-founded the Ave Maria Athletic & Walkers Club. Driven by the powerful and poignant motto 'Save the Child', the club rapidly became a beacon of hope for underprivileged and marginalized youth across the region.
