Gurugram Police Impound Bike with 63 Challans Worth Rs 5.45 Lakh

On Saturday, the Gurugram Traffic Police impounded a motorcycle that had accumulated 63 unpaid traffic challans amounting to Rs 5.45 lakh. The vehicle was seized during a routine checking drive at the Artemis-Ambedkar Chowk after the rider failed to produce any valid documents.

Enforcement Drive Targets Chronic Offenders

A senior traffic police officer stated that the department is running special enforcement drives against motorists who repeatedly violate traffic rules. As part of this campaign, strict action is being taken under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 against vehicle owners who have not paid challans for over 90 days. Simultaneously, motorists are being informed about their pending fines and encouraged to clear them promptly.

Seizure Details

On Tuesday, ASI Randhir Singh, Zonal Officer at Artemis-Ambedkar Chowk, along with his team, stopped the motorcycle for inspection during a routine vehicle-checking operation. The rider was asked to present vehicle documents but could not provide any valid papers. Upon verification, it was found that the motorcycle had 63 pending challans issued under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, with a total penalty of Rs 5,45,500. Most of these challans were for offenses such as riding without a helmet, driving without valid insurance, operating a vehicle without a valid Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate, and other traffic violations. In accordance with legal provisions, the motorcycle was impounded and moved to the designated impound parking due to the pending challans.

Police Appeal to Motorists

Gurugram Traffic Police spokesperson Vikas Verma appealed to all motorists to strictly follow traffic rules, keep mandatory vehicle documents—including valid insurance and a PUC certificate—up to date, and ensure timely payment of pending challans. He emphasized, “Compliance with traffic regulations is essential for the safety of both drivers and other road users.”

Impact and Ongoing Campaign

This seizure is part of a broader enforcement campaign by Gurugram Traffic Police to curb traffic violations and improve road safety. The department has been conducting regular drives at major intersections and chowks to catch offenders and clear pending fines. The action sends a strong message to habitual violators that unpaid challans will lead to vehicle impoundment.
