Hardik Pandya Opens Up on Emotional Celebration After Crucial Run-Out

Indian cricket star Hardik Pandya has provided a heartfelt explanation for his animated celebration following a pivotal run-out during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup semi-final against England. The dramatic moment occurred at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium on Thursday, where Pandya's direct throw ended Jacob Bethell's impressive innings of 102 runs in the final over of England's chase.

The Decisive Moment and Immediate Reaction

After executing the perfect throw to dismiss Bethell, the 32-year-old all-rounder erupted with visible emotion, pumping his fists and shouting in celebration. This reaction wasn't just about the crucial wicket but had deeper personal significance that Pandya later revealed in an interview released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on social media platform X.

"The reaction was because my son came, and I wanted my son and Mahieka to enjoy this moment and feel how emotional I was," Pandya explained, referring to his son Agastya and girlfriend Mahieka Sharma who were watching from the stadium stands.

Pandya's 'Zen Mode' Approach to Pressure Situations

The all-rounder detailed his mental approach during the high-pressure situation, emphasizing his deliberate calmness. "See, there are two ways in life. I could have got my heart rushing and would have not been able to execute. So, I went in my zen mode," Pandya stated. "Quite amazing that instead of getting my heartbeat rushed, I was still. And I'm really proud of that."

Pandya specifically targeted Bethell for dismissal, recognizing the batter's dangerous form. "One batter I had to get out from the field was Bethell, the way he was batting. I knew I had to keep calm and throw it where it was supposed to be," he explained. "I would have liked it a little closer to the stumps, but nevertheless, we got the job done."

All-Round Performance and Impact Player Recognition

Before the crucial run-out, Pandya had already made significant contributions with the ball. During the 19th over, he conceded just nine runs while taking the wicket of Sam Curran, who was attempting to accelerate England's scoring but was caught at mid-wicket.

Pandya repeated his philosophy about maintaining composure, saying "There are two ways in life. I could have got my heart racing and not been able to execute, so I went into my Zen mode. It's quite amazing that instead of my heartbeat rushing, I stayed still. I'm really proud of that."

For his comprehensive performance that included both batting and bowling contributions along with the game-changing run-out, Pandya was named the impact player of the match in the team dressing room after the game concluded.

Looking Ahead to the T20 World Cup Final

With this victory, India has secured their place in the final of the 2026 T20 World Cup, where they will face New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday. The team will be looking to build on their semi-final performance as they prepare for the championship match against the formidable Kiwi side.

The match showcased not only Pandya's cricketing skills but also his emotional connection to the game and his family, providing fans with insight into what motivates one of India's most dynamic cricketers during crucial international tournaments.
