Ishan Kishan has claimed the top spot in the ICC Men's T20I batting rankings, surpassing his Indian teammate and opener Abhishek Sharma, according to the latest update released on July 1.
Kishan's rise to the top
Kishan achieved a new career-high rating after India's two-match T20I series against Ireland in Belfast, which Ireland won 2-0. Despite not scoring heavily in the series, Kishan's consistent form in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup earlier this year propelled him to the summit. In the World Cup, the left-handed batter amassed 317 runs at a strike rate of nearly 200, including a Player of the Match performance against Pakistan in Colombo and a half-century in the final against New Zealand.
Kishan is the leading T20I run-scorer in 2026, with 1,147 runs in 30 innings at an average of 38.23 and a strike rate of 190.21, including one century and ten half-centuries.
Abhishek Sharma's reign ends
Abhishek Sharma had held the number one ranking for almost 12 months. Kishan joins an elite group of Indian male batters who have held the top T20I ranking, including Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav. Only seven rating points separate the two Indian players at the top.
Other ranking movements
In the same T20I rankings update, Ireland's Lorcan Tucker rose four places to equal 77th, and Ross Adair moved up six spots to 84th after decent performances in Belfast. Among bowlers, Ireland's Matthew Humphreys gained one place to 25th with a new career-high rating after taking four wickets in the series. In the all-rounder rankings, India's Shivam Dube climbed three spots to seventh, while Ireland's Gareth Delany and Harry Tector rose to 24th and 38th, respectively.
Test rankings changes
The latest Test rankings saw significant shifts after three Tests worldwide. Australia's Travis Head became the number one Test batter, moving ahead of Harry Brook (second) and Joe Root (third), who dropped after a poor performance in the Nottingham Test against New Zealand. India's Jasprit Bumrah now holds the top spot among Test bowlers, with New Zealand's Matt Henry dropping to second.
New Zealand's Test win at Trent Bridge boosted their ICC World Test Championship prospects, leading to rankings gains for Rachin Ravindra (up to seventh), Daryl Mitchell (11th), Devon Conway (equal 15th), and Tom Latham (equal 31st). Kiwi pacer Nathan Smith rose eight places to 38th among bowlers, while England captain Ben Stokes improved two places to third in the all-rounder list following his mid-match retirement.
West Indies quicks Shamar Joseph and Kemar Roach also made gains after their team's Test win over Sri Lanka, with Joseph moving up nine slots to equal 14th and Roach up four places to 17th in the bowlers' rankings.
