Karnataka Dominates Mumbai to Secure Semifinal Berth

A depleted Mumbai side faced a formidable Karnataka team in the Vijay Hazare Trophy quarterfinal on Monday. Karnataka emerged victorious by 55 runs using the VJD method. The match took place at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Mumbai's Batting Struggles

Mumbai entered the contest without several key players. Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, and Shardul Thakur were already absent. In-form batsman Sarfaraz Khan missed the game due to injury. Pacer Tushar Deshpande was unavailable for personal reasons.

Mumbai batted first after losing the toss. Openers Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Ishan Mulchandani started cautiously. Karnataka seamers bowled tightly with the new ball. The first ten overs passed without damage.

The slow start hurt Mumbai when they lost quick wickets. Vidyadhar Patil, Vijaykumar Vyshak, and Vidwath Kaverappa struck crucial blows. Between the 12th and 18th overs, Mumbai lost Raghuvanshi, Mulchandani, Musheer Khan, and Hardik Tamore.

Captain Siddhesh Lad tried to stabilize the innings with Shams Mulani. Lad scored 38 runs from 58 balls. Runs came slowly during their partnership. Lad departed in the 34th over, leaving Mulani with a heavy burden.

Shams Mulani played a fighting innings of 86 runs from 91 deliveries. The all-rounder has performed rescue acts consistently in recent seasons. Sairaj Patil contributed a quick 33 runs towards the end. Mumbai finished their innings at 254 for 8 wickets in 50 overs.

Karnataka's Comfortable Chase

Karnataka began their chase confidently. Devdutt Padikkal continued his excellent form from the tournament. He lost captain Mayank Agarwal early in the innings.

Karun Nair provided perfect support to Padikkal. The left-right batting pair scored runs effortlessly. Both batsmen hit eleven boundaries each during their partnership.

Bad light interrupted play, followed by steady drizzle. The match could not resume after this stoppage. Karnataka had reached 187 for 1 wicket in 33 overs at that stage.

Padikkal remained unbeaten on 81 runs. Nair was not out on 74 runs. Karnataka had already done enough to qualify for the semifinals according to VJD calculations.

Saurashtra Defeats Uttar Pradesh

In another quarterfinal match at the same venue, Saurashtra beat Uttar Pradesh by 17 runs via VJD method. Uttar Pradesh batted first and scored 310 for 8 wickets in 50 overs.

Abhishek Goswami and Sameer Rizvi both scored 88 runs for Uttar Pradesh. Rizvi remained not out from 77 deliveries with ten fours and two sixes.

Saurashtra responded strongly in their chase. Harvik Desai scored an unbeaten century, reaching 100 runs from 116 balls. Prerak Mankad supported him with 67 runs.

Rain interrupted the match when Saurashtra needed 72 runs from 59 deliveries with seven wickets remaining. They were ahead on the VJD system when play stopped.
