Football fans in Kanjoor, Kerala, staged a unique protest against a power cut during a FIFA World Cup match by moving their viewing party to the local Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) office. The incident occurred on Thursday night when residents were watching a crucial World Cup game on television.
Fans Question Load Shedding During World Cup
As the match progressed, electricity was suddenly cut off, leaving fans in the dark. Frustrated, a group of residents decided to march to the KSEB office, carrying their television set. They demanded to know why load shedding was implemented when everyone was engrossed in the tournament.
"Why are you cutting power when people are watching football on TVs in their homes? What is the need to carry out load shedding now when everyone in Kerala is watching the World Cup?" one fan said.
Protest Turns Into a Viewing Session
The KSEB officials, taken aback by the protest, allowed the fans to plug in their TV inside the office. The fans then continued watching the match from the premises, turning the protest into an impromptu viewing session. The move drew attention to the inconvenience caused by unscheduled power cuts.
The incident highlights the passion for football in Kerala, where World Cup matches are followed with great enthusiasm. The KSEB has not yet commented on the specific power cut, but officials assured that such disruptions would be minimized during the tournament.
