PSG Coach Luis Enrique Advocates for Sin-Bin System in Soccer
Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has expressed his support for introducing a sin-bin system in soccer. This system would temporarily remove players from the game for fouls, similar to practices in rugby matches.
Current System and Proposed Changes
In soccer, players currently face either a yellow card caution or a permanent red card dismissal. Luis Enrique discussed the possibility of an "orange" card at a pre-match news conference on Thursday. This card would result in a player being removed from the field for 20 minutes.
"We must continue to search for things like this," Luis Enrique stated ahead of Friday's Ligue 1 game against Lille. He emphasized the importance of evolving the sport to make it more attractive for supporters.
Enhancing Attacking Play
Luis Enrique believes that implementing a sin-bin system could lead to more attacking football. By creating more space on the field, the game could become more dynamic and entertaining.
He recalled a suggestion from former UEFA president Michel Platini about playing with 10 players instead of 11. "These are things to analyse, to see what the impact is on our sport," Luis Enrique added. He remains open to exploring new ideas to improve soccer.
PSG's Current Standings
Defending Ligue 1 champion PSG trailed surprise leader Lens by one point heading into this weekend's games. The team continues to compete at the top of the league table.
