The seventh edition of the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 tournament began on Saturday at the Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Ground in Mysuru, marking the start of Karnataka's premier franchise cricket competition. Organized by the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), the event follows the conclusion of the IPL and aims to attract cricket enthusiasts.
Opening Ceremony Highlights
The opening ceremony featured playback singer Vijay Prakash, who performed popular Kannada and Hindi songs, including Singara Siriye, Gombe Helutaithe, and Jai Ho. Notable attendees included former Indian captain and ICC chairman Roger Binny, University of Mysore vice-chancellor K Lokanath, KSCA secretary Santosh Menon, and former India cricketers Javagal Srinath and Sujith Somasundar. Binny and Prof Lokanath unveiled the tournament trophy at the ceremony's conclusion.
Tournament Format and Schedule
The tournament runs from June 20 to July 12 in three phases. The opening leg, consisting of 12 matches, will be held at the Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar Ground in Mysuru from June 20 to 25. Six teams are competing for the title: Mysore Warriors, Mangaluru Coastal Kings, Gulbarga Mystics, Hubli Tigers, Bengaluru Blasters, and Shivamogga Lions.
