Man Utd Reveals Location for New 100,000-Seater Stadium

Manchester United has announced the location for its proposed 100,000-seater stadium, which will sit approximately 350 metres north-west of the existing Old Trafford Stadium, according to Sky Sports. The new venue is set to become the largest stadium in the United Kingdom, with the club having acquired most of the land for the project just over two weeks ago.

Wharfside Masterplan and Regeneration

The stadium is the centerpiece of the Trafford Wharfside area regeneration, known as the Wharfside Masterplan. The area is planned to become a year-round sports and entertainment hub, featuring thousands of new homes, improved public transport links, and enhanced facilities for walking and cycling. The masterplan requires final approval from Trafford Council, scheduled for July 20. If approved, an eight-week consultation period will run from July 28 to September 22, with events across the area for public feedback.

Old Trafford's Future and 'New Trafford' Design

The future of Manchester United's current home, Old Trafford, which has a capacity of 74,000 and has hosted the club for 115 years, remains uncertain. The club is expected to use Old Trafford until the new stadium is completed. The new stadium, tentatively named 'New Trafford' in a brief document, features an umbrella design that, according to the architect, will harvest solar energy and rainwater. The venue is expected to take five years to complete and will include three masts making it visible from 40 kilometres away.

Recent Performance and Coaching Change

In the 2025-26 Premier League season, Manchester United finished third with 20 wins, 11 draws, and seven losses in 38 games, securing a UEFA Champions League spot. The club has appointed Michael Carrick as permanent head coach after a successful interim spell. Carrick, who returned to Old Trafford in January 2026 following Ruben Amorim's departure, signed a contract until 2028. Under his guidance, United won 11 of 16 Premier League matches and achieved the highest points tally in the division since his arrival, according to an official club statement.
