Mangalagiri Cricket Stadium Set for Major Revival After Seven-Year Stalemate
In a significant development for cricket in Andhra Pradesh, the long-stalled Mangalagiri cricket stadium is finally poised for a comprehensive transformation. After remaining incomplete for nearly seven years due to persistent design and structural issues, the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) has officially initiated modernization works to elevate the venue into a premier cricketing destination.
Leadership Unveils Ambitious Roadmap for Neglected Venue
During a detailed inspection visit, ACA president and MP Keshineni Shivanad, alongside ACA secretary Sana Satish Babu, presented an ambitious blueprint to convert the neglected stadium into a modern cricketing hub. For years, the project faced numerous hurdles and criticism from sports enthusiasts across the state, but now appears back on track with renewed vigor.
The revival effort has gained momentum with active government support, ensuring the stadium will soon host league and domestic cricket matches. A landmark moment is scheduled for June 3, 2026, when the venue will host the opening match of the Andhra Premier League (APL) Season 5 in Mangalagiri, symbolizing a fresh start for the facility.
Substantial Infrastructure Upgrades Underway
Modernization works are currently in progress, with key enhancements including the installation of advanced floodlights and the construction of new spectator stands. These improvements, with an estimated cost of ₹5 crore, are expected to be completed by May, well ahead of the 2026 APL season.
Officials have confirmed that the revamped stadium is likely to be inaugurated by a high-profile delegation including Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh. The upgraded facility will feature:
- Improved seating arrangements for enhanced spectator comfort
- Accommodation facilities for 100–150 players
- Comprehensive medical and physiotherapy facilities
- Substantially enhanced cricketing infrastructure
Long-Term Vision: Multi-Sports Hub and APL Headquarters
Beyond immediate cricket needs, the Mangalagiri Stadium is envisioned to evolve into a multi-sports hub in the coming years. This strategic positioning aims to establish the venue as the primary host for the Andhra Premier League while simultaneously serving as a key center for domestic cricket activities throughout Andhra Pradesh.
APL fixtures for the upcoming seasons will also be held in other prominent cities including Visakhapatnam and Kadapa, creating a distributed tournament structure across the state. The Mangalagiri revival represents not just infrastructure development but a renewed commitment to sporting excellence in the region.
