Cristiano Ronaldo has stated he will not make any decision regarding his international future until after the FIFA World Cup 2026 concludes, putting an end to speculation about his retirement following Portugal's victory over Croatia.
Ronaldo's Stance on Retirement
Speaking after Portugal's thrilling 2-1 win over Croatia in the Round of 32 on Thursday, Ronaldo told FOX Sports: "I don't make reckless decisions. I will decide after the tournament, not now." The 41-year-old captain emphasized his focus remains solely on the ongoing tournament.
Historic Milestone Achieved
During the match, Ronaldo became the oldest player to score in a FIFA World Cup knockout match, achieving the feat at the age of 41 years and 147 days. This surpassed the previous record for the oldest goalscorer in a World Cup knockout fixture. Notably, it was also his first-ever goal in knockout matches across his record sixth World Cup appearance.
Ronaldo scored from the penalty spot in the 67th minute after a VAR review awarded Portugal a spot-kick. The goal canceled out Ivan Perisic's opener for Croatia and brought Roberto Martinez's side level. Ronaldo was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.
Match Details and Impact

Croatia had taken the lead through Ivan Perisic, who became the country's all-time leading World Cup scorer.
