Wedding Celebrations Halted Abruptly
The much-anticipated wedding of Indian women's cricket team vice-captain Smriti Mandhana with music composer Palash Muchhal has been postponed indefinitely due to a medical emergency in the family. The ceremony, scheduled for Sunday in Sangli, was called off after Mandhana's father, Shriniwas Mandhana, was hospitalized due to health complications.
Family Comes First for Cricket Star
According to sources present in Sangli for the wedding preparations, Smriti Mandhana has made it clear that she will not proceed with her marriage without her father by her side. "Yes, Smriti's father has been hospitalized in Sangli. The wedding has been postponed. Smriti is very clear that she is not getting married without her dad by her side," a source confirmed to Times of India.
The exact nature of Shriniwas Mandhana's health issue remains unknown as medical tests are being conducted. "We don't know, tests are being done on her father, he's under observation," the source added, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding the situation.
Cricket Community Gathers in Support
For the past three days, Sangli had transformed into a celebration hub as members of the Indian women's cricket team gathered for pre-wedding festivities. The star opener's hometown buzzed with activity as her closest teammates participated in various ceremonies.
Jemimah Rodrigues, fresh from her Women's Big Bash League commitments in Australia, flew directly to join the celebrations. The 2025 Women's ODI World Cup hero was accompanied by teammates Richa Ghosh, Radha Yadav, Arundhati Reddy, and Shreyanka Patil, all of whom actively participated in the functions and spent quality time with the Mandhana family.
The guest list reflected the significance of the occasion within cricketing circles, featuring senior figures like former India captains Diana Edulji and Shubhangi Kulkarni. The gathering had turned the normally quiet town into a display of cricketing camaraderie and support for one of their most celebrated players.
Despite the festive preparations being in full swing, including the beginning of the Haldi ceremony, the wedding plans have been put on hold indefinitely as the family prioritizes Shriniwas Mandhana's recovery and health.
