Tamil Nadu's Ambrish, Deepesh Selected for India U-19 World Cup Squad
Tamil Nadu Duo Ambrish, Deepesh in India U-19 WC Squad

In a moment of pure surprise and elation, young all-rounder RS Ambrish discovered he had been selected for the Indian team for the upcoming ICC Under-19 World Cup. The 18-year-old from Tamil Nadu was taken aback when informed of his selection, having just stepped off a plane.

A Dream Realised for Tamil Nadu's Young Talents

RS Ambrish was initially unaware that the squad had been announced. "Has the squad come out?" he enquired politely. Upon confirmation that he had made the cut for the global event scheduled for January-February in Zimbabwe and Namibia, his reaction was one of thrilled disbelief. "Wow! Okay. It is a great start for a young player like me," Ambrish told TOI. He described it as a proud moment for his family, culminating years of dedicated effort. "With the U-19 WC happening every two years, most of the players aim to represent the country at the highest level. It will be a great opportunity," he added.

Joining him on the flight to Africa will be his statemate, medium pacer D Deepesh. The 17-year-old displayed remarkable composure, keeping his emotions in check. "I am focused on doing well for the team. I do not focus much on selection; I just try to play my game and stick to my strengths. I take things as they come," Deepesh stated.

Form, Fitness, and Focus Ahead of the Mega Event

D Deepesh is riding a wave of excellent form. He is fresh from a stellar performance at the U-19 Asia Cup in the UAE, where he emerged as the highest wicket-taker with 14 scalps in just five matches. "I feel that I am in good rhythm; I am bowling in the right areas, and I am in a good headspace. I would like to carry the form and confidence into the WC," Deepesh explained. He revealed he has been working on adding a slower-ball variation to his bowling arsenal.

For RS Ambrish, the selection comes as a perfect boost after he missed the U-19 Asia Cup due to an injury. The all-rounder, who was a standout performer during India's youth tour of England earlier this year, is now optimistic about a strong comeback. "I am feeling way better. I am confident of performing well, contributing to the team and helping India win. I hope that we win the World Cup," Ambrish said with determination.

Captain and Vice-Captain to Miss South Africa Series

In related news, the appointed captain Ayush Mhatre and vice-captain Vihaan Malhotra will be unavailable for the preparatory series in South Africa preceding the World Cup due to injuries. Their absence will be a test for the team's bench strength ahead of the biennial showpiece event.

The selection of Ambrish and Deepesh highlights the thriving cricket talent pool in Tamil Nadu and sets the stage for India's campaign to reclaim the Under-19 World Cup trophy.
