Three Killed in Two Separate Road Accidents in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai: Three men lost their lives in two separate road accidents that occurred in Navi Mumbai late Monday and early Tuesday, according to police reports.

First Accident on Uran-Mora Road

On Monday just before 3 am, a head-on collision between two motorcycles on the Uran-Mora stretch claimed the lives of both riders. API Swapnil Kedar of Uran police station stated that a local resident reported the accident, leading police to the scene about 2 kilometers from the station. The bikes were severely damaged, and the riders were found lying unconscious with multiple injuries, including grievous head wounds. Two helmets were discovered at the site, but it could not be confirmed whether the victims were wearing them or had them hanging on their handlebars.

The injured men were rushed to Indira Gandhi Rural Government Hospital in Uran, where doctors declared them brought dead. The deceased were identified as Mahesh Prahlad Chandekar (35), a resident of Dongaraali village, Uran taluka, who was riding from Uran towards Mora, and Nikhil Deepak Kukade (34), a contract worker residing in Shiv Sagar apartment opposite Naga police line, Nagav road in Uran, who was riding in the opposite direction from Mora towards Uran. An FIR was registered against both deceased bikers under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for causing death by rash or negligent act, endangering life or personal safety, and rash driving, along with the Motor Vehicles Act for dangerous and reckless driving.

Second Accident on Palaspe-JNPT Road

In another incident around 12:30 am on Tuesday, a pickup vehicle crashed into the rear of a moving container trailer on the Palaspe-JNPT road bridge opposite Dombala college at Karanjade, Panvel taluka. The driver of the pickup was killed, and four occupants sustained severe injuries.

The deceased driver was identified as Jaipal Khopatkar (26), a resident of Dighi village, Shrivardhan in Raigad district. The injured occupants were Krushna Chikati (38), his sibling Kamlakar Chikati (34), and their friends Kashinath Bhangoji (38) and Avinash Gund (34). Panvel city police registered an FIR against the deceased driver under relevant sections of BNS and the Motor Vehicles Act for reckless driving causing death and endangering life or personal safety of others.
